The Walkley Friendly Pool League is played throughout the pubs, clubs and snooker halls of Walkley, Sheffield.
League matches are played on Monday evenings, beginning at 8:30pm and are played over the best of seven frames,
the first five of which are singles match ups and the last two of which are doubles match ups.
Paul Dyson Singles Knockout Second Round
P. Smith is the first name in the third round hat after winning his 2nd round match 2-1.
D. Sargant is also into the last 16, after a 2-1 win.
M. Higgins will be one to avoid in the third round draw. He won through 2-0.
K. Wild has received a BYE through to the third round.
A. Newell is into round 3 after a 2-0 victory.
P. Terminator will be back ... in the next round after winning 201.
D. Reid joins his Pitsmoor teammate, winning through 2-0.
J. Finnerty was the third Pitsmoor winner sent through in a single chunk. He won 2-1.
W. Gurnhill made it beyond round 2 with a 2-1 scoreline.
A. Richmond travelled to where the beer is cheap and came away a 2-0 victor.
P. Staniland won his second round match 2-0 to progress.
M. Camm has received a BYE through to the third round.
L. Jackson sprang into action and emerged a 2-0 second round winner.

G. Higgins and A. Newell are our first doubles winners of 2024. They won 2-0.
M. Naughton and A. Highton continued their doubles journey with a 2-1 away win.

League Week 9 Results
The Florist 'B' bounced back to winning ways, 6-1 against the Sportsman.
The battle of the joint 2nd placers was won 4-3 by the mighty Florist 'A'.
The Spot On 'A' improved their frame difference with a 7-0 win against the Railway 'A'.
The Pitsmoor 'B' are climbing up after winning 4-3 at home to the Spot On 'B'.
The Railway 'B' emerged the victors by a single frame against the Beer House.
The Forest 'A' inflicted a home defeat on the Masons, winning 5-2.
The Pitsmoor 'A' are on a big gun beating streak. They beat La Plata 4-3.

Ivy Sadler Team Knockout First Round
The Mighty Florist made it through to the quarters with a 4-0 win at the Railway 'A'.
The Pitsmoor 'B' are into the last 8 after a 4-2 win against the Sportsman.
The Florist 'B' won 4-1 away to emerge victorious against the Spot On 'B'.
Champions, the Forest 'B', started their defence with a 4-0 win against the Beer House.
The Forest 'A' beat the Spot On 'A' 4-3 to win their first round tie.
The Railway 'B' won their first round match 4-1 against the Pitsmoor 'A'.

Rules of Play and League Guidelines
The Rules of Play and the League Guidelines were drawn up at the start of the 2023 season.
These can be viewed on, and downloaded from, the Downloads page.
All league players are encouraged to read the Rules of Play.
Errors or omissions can be reported via the Captains' WhatsApp group or the Facebook page.
Once approved by the Chairman, the Rules of Play or Guidelines can then be corrected.
The Florist 'B' have registered for the 2024 Season of the WFPL.
The Florist will be renamed the Florist 'A'.

The Loxley have withdrawn from the Mini League.
A revised structure and fixture list was agreed at the June meeting.
A coin toss dictated that La Plata joined League B and the Forest 'A' joined League C.
There are three mini leagues one with four teams and two with three teams.
The winners and the best runners up will then compete in the semi finals.
The best 2nd place team will be decided only on matches between the top 3 in each league.
Each team will play the other teams in their league home and away.
Each match in the league stages and the finals is the best of nine frames of singles.
The matches consist of 3 sets of 3 frames.
Within each set three different players have to be used.
(Though a player can play in one, two or all three sets.)
A team can thus play a match with any number between 3 and 9 different players.
Two players can not play each other more than once in a match.
The subs from the June and July meetings will be used to create a mini-league prize pot.

March Meeting
A complaint was made by the Railway 'B'.
They alleged that the Florist 'B' team behaved in a threatening manner.
The Florist 'B' team alleged that the Railway 'B' also behaved in a threatening manner.
The disputes committee convened to interview both parties and discuss further action.
The disputes committee decided that:
The Florist 'B' and Railway 'B' both receive a suspended 4 point deduction.
The deduction will come into effect on any further instances of threatening behaviour.
(Along with any further penalties that may be decreed in the event of a repeated occurance.)
The two parties agreed that there would be no issue in playing the reverse league fixture,
or any knockout matches between players of the two teams.

February Meeting
J. Moorhouse (Forest 'B') has resigned from the disputes committee.
B. Nadin (Forest 'B') was elected to the disputes committee.
Clarification:
Subscription is not waived if a team receives a points deduction
due to non-attendance at a meeting.
Proposal from La Plata:
Pubs with two teams may only send one delegate to a meeting.
That delegate must pay the subscription for both teams.
That delegate will only have one vote on any proposals at that meeting.
All proposals must be published on the Captains' WhatsApp Group prior to the meeting.
The motion was passed.
All teams should list their Singles and Doubles entrants via the Captains' WhatsApp Group.
If a team has no entrants then this should also be noted in the group.
This should be done prior to the March meeting where the first round draws will be made.
Entry fees for the Singles and Doubles will be payable at the March meeting.
Entry to the Singles Knockout is £2 per person.
Entry to the Doubles Knockout is £2 per person. (£4 per pair.)

P. Staniland was re-elected to the post of WFPL Chairman.
R. Carroll was re-elected to the post of WFPL Vice Chairman.
M. Fleet was re-elected to the post of WFPL Treasurer.

£80 was raised via the game of Killer at the Presentation evening.
This money was donated to John Burkhill for Macmillan Cancer Support.
